Hi! I am Vaibhavi Khandeparker and I own a bag business which, runs on social media accounts and I call it as Morpankh. Why Morpankh? I love the magnificent colours of the Peacock and its feather and that is why the name.
One fine day when my wardrobe was too messy and I was sorting it out I realised there were loads of bags. Looking at the number of bags I was sure enough of the love. Not long from that day my liking turned into a lovely venture.
The unfamothable love for Indian Cotton Fabric like Ikkat, Kalamkari,etc. made me think for something that can be made available to other women as well. I always thought of keeping the Indian Fabric Legacy Alive. I pondered for long why not give it a try and started with an online Morpankh page on Facebook and Instagram in February 2018.
Being into a full-time job I had time constraints and wanted to start with something small. Not a manufacturer of bags, rather consolidate from various sellers. My bags are handcrafted with Indian touch. Bags here are a wide array of shapes totes, wallets, potlis, slings, backpacks, even toiletry, make-up and jewellery. Bags range starts from INR 50. Yes, bags of everyday use and, ideal for gifting purposes. I have bags for direct sales and bulk orders.
A wholesale price on bulk orders of bags for weddings, parties, or any other occasion. The bulk order is delivered within a month with proper packaging etc.
I started exhibiting for the pop-up bazaar and the sumptuous response of the first exhibition motivated me for many more.
I ended up exhibiting at more than 6 pop-up bazaars in Margao and Panaji. Had more than 1500 customers during the entire year.
Majority of my customers are from the prime cities of Goa like Margao, Ponda, Panaji etc. Apart from that I get orders from various parts of India and abroad. Recently I have also sent a bulk order for an event in UK. A family from Goa based in UK ordered for batwa bags.
My journey so far has been good. During the entire year I met different people with a different ideologies. Sometimes more than sales you need words of appreciation to move forward.
I evolved as per the requirements of the people. Every time a customer asked me for something which I did not have I would inquire about it and produce the item for the next event.
My friends and family helped to share the products with their connections which in turn helped me grow. It takes a lot of patience and energy to setup any venture. Being into a full time job and managing all of it has been a rollercoaster ride. But with the help of families and friends I somehow managed to come this far.
My family had been very supportive of my initiative. But, my husband has been the motivator for me throughout. People have built trust in me and my products. Even sometimes when I dont attend any exhibitions they look out for me and ask me why I had not displayed the products etc.
Heres my message to women out there. Believe in yourself and things will fall in place automatically. No matter what it takes do not give up on the passion and your liking. Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai Kehena. Follow your heart not others. Do not feel guilty to take out time for yourself while you have the responsibility of your family and business.
