Bio Data of Padmashree Josalkar..
Theatre educationist, designer and Director.
Studied at National School of Drama ( NSD) New Delhi.
She has been teaching , theatre for past 35 years and she along with Late shri S. B. Josalkar, established School of Drama for Kala Academy of which she was the Director of School of Dram Kala Academy, from 2000- 2018.
In 2000 she was awarded a grant from India Foundation for Arts , Bangalore for her project ‘Theatre in Goan school’ . Under the project work she has successfully introducing subject of ‘theatre’ as an academic discipline in School Education in Goa. Till 2018, 100 schools in Goa are teaching theatre as part of their regular curriculum and 23 teachers from Drama School have been employed as Drama Teachers.
She has been acting in theatre since the age of 6 and has worked under noted theatre directors such as B. V. Karanth, Shangar Nag,B. Jayashree, Nagabharana, C.R. Simha and Ashok Badardinne. She has also acted in 10 films. She featured in telefilm ‘Girija’, Directed by Deepa Dhanraj and B.Jayashree under the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare.
She has acted, directed and designed costumes for the dramas at the Kala Academy drama festival. Her expertise lie in theatre curriculum design, costume design, world drama and comparative literature, improvisation and direction.

Remembering Karnad- Myth, Memory, History…. A tribute
The talk will look at the Girish Karnad’s contribution to theatre and the use of mythological themes.
Josalkar, will present her personal experiences of working with Karnad and other legendary directors like B. V. Karanth , Shankar nag and B. Jayashree.
At the end there Josalkar will give her interpretation of one of the character’s from Karnad’s Play , followed by Question answer session.
