This quaint little restaurant is housed in a shop premise of Sapna Heights in St. Inez. The board has ‘ Pure Vegetarian’ written in very bold letters in green and the name of the restaurant India cafe in orange seems a little lost on it. The owners probably intentionally did this to attract vegetarian guests residing in Goa or tourists who search for vegetarian fare.

This place was opened for the public on 11th July this year. Owned by friends Prashant Kakode, Girish Parekh and his brother Divesh (Dipu) Parekh.. who have played cricket and table tennis together since college. If you are lucky you will get parking in this area unlike panjim city where its so difficult to get one. The eat out has both non AC downstairs and AC upstairs. Nothing fancy but very neat and well designed seating. You know you have come to the right place when you get to sniff in the lovely aromas rifting from the kitchen.

In the afternoon they serve you a thali consisting of two goan bhaji and one north indian style bhaji, dal, chapathi, rice, kheer, dahi, sol kadhi, salad papad and either batata fodi or raw banana fodi. The reason being given is if the guest is a little fussy about the goan bhaji he can happily have the paneer or mushroom bhaji of his liking.

The hot favourite on their menu is
1.Goa Samosa
2.Patal/ Sukhi/Salad bhaji

1. Hyderabadi/ Veg Biryani
2. Paneer Butter Masala

1. Veg Crispy
2.Gobi Manchurian
3.Fried Rice/ Hakka Noodles

1.Dahi Papdi chaat
2. Sev Puri

# Bombay Pav Bhaji
1. Butter Pav Bhaji
2. Masala Pav

1. Cheese Frankie
2. Shezwan Paneer Frnkie

# VEG THALI – For Lunch only at reasonable rate 90 rs

The pav bhaji is very tasty and does not leave a sour taste unlike most places. If you find the portion too large they give you an option of one by two where you are given a separate plate with all the garnishes. The masala pav is too good with a nice savoury potato filling more like a dabeli masala. the fresh lime soda is actually freshly made. The coffee is aromatic and they give you extra coffee powder if you need it stronger.

The staff here is very friendly who serve with a smile. Like a typical udipi restaurant style the boy will serve you water in steel glass as soon as you sit and collect the empty plates and wipe the table so that you are comfortable.

Heres to happy eating for breakfast, lunch, snacks or dinner. For all the vegetarians who don’t want their food cooked along with the non veg in the same kitchen this is the place for you. For good food and no fancy deco I would recommend India Cafe
